Mother’s Day 2021 is quickly approaching (it’s on May 9 if you’re not aware!), and after a year like this, moms deserve an even more special big day!
I also think Mother’s Day is a really great time to celebrate all the women in your life, those who serve as a Mother figure to you or your friends with young children. I know Mother’s Day isn’t a joyous occasion for all, and if you’re missing your mom this year for any reason, my thoughts are prayers are with you in this season.
At first, I felt really uninspired on Mother’s Day gifts this year, but once I started putting this together, I almost couldn’t stop putting gifts in. I tried to include all different price points because I know we are all experiencing different budgets this year. I talk more about this at the end of the post, but if you can even give time to your mom, this year it counts more than ever.
Check out these 11 extremely thoughtful Mother’s Day gifts and shop Mother’s Day gift ideas below. I took a “thoughtful” approach with this, specifically because moms and mother figures are always the most thoughtful in the room/family, and it’s a good time to give back to them in any way possible!
1. One-Two Month Winc Subscription, $60-$100
It’s been a long year, and I think this is a really fun way to gift your mom something that she might not buy herself. A Winc wine subscription gift allows the receiver to pick out four winc-specific bottles of wine each month. You can take their taste quiz to determine which wines you will like best, and if you gift a multiple month subscription, the wine suggestions get more and more tailored to you each month!
I think the two month gift would be great on its own, or the one month subscription would be great to include in a Mothers Day gift basket!
2. A custom drawing of you and your mom, $25
This goes back to the days of DIY Mother’s Day gifts, but nothing could be more thoughtful than a custom picture of you and your mom! Even better if the photo you submit is from a meaningful day or event.
Custom drawings for Mother’s Day don’t have to be expensive, local freelance artists have really great prices for these. I got etc. creative to create one for my mom’s Christmas present last year, and then I got it printed on a self-standing canvas at Canvas on Demand! These canvases take a while to come in, and the freelance artist will have at least a multiple day turn around time, so make sure to get on this gift quickly if you want it in time for Mother’s Day 2021.
The exciting giveaway I mentioned in the title— well, I am actually giving away one digital, custom portrait from etc. creative just in time for Mother’s Day! Make sure to head to my Instagram now to enter the giveaway running tonight through Wednesday, April 14 at midnight.
3. Magnolia Cookbooks, $17
Cookbooks for moms? Revolutionary. But no, really! These two cookbooks are ones she will actually use. If you’re looking for other good cookbooks ideas, make sure you check out my ‘six cookbooks you will actually use’ post for even more ideas.
The Magnolia Cookbooks are almost always on a really great sale on Amazon. Find the first cookbook here and the second cookbook here.
4. Three Month Book of the Month subscription, $50
This is actually what I gifted my mother-in-law for Christmas, and I think she’s really been loving it. I’m planning to do a full book of the month review soon, but the basic gist is, this company picks the five best new or pre-releases in five top genres, and the subscription recipient gets to pick one for free.
It’s great, and honestly if you want to sign up for yourself at the same time, I do not blame you.
5. Three Month RocksBox subscription, $49
Also on the list of things your mom would probably never buy herself but would love to have- a Rocksbox subscription! i have never tried this myself, but I know a lot of people love it.
If your mom is big on jewelry, this would let her try out a bunch of different pieces. If she falls in love with a piece, she can even pay a discounted price to keep it forever!
6. My Life Story journal, $30
How fun is this?! I think this would be really special on its own or in a big goodie basket. I think it would be really nice to have all the information in this, and I love that it contains writing prompts for your mom so she doesn’t have to think of what to write on her own.
7. Bum Bum Cream, $20
Okay, okay. This probably seems really weird. Bum bum cream?? What! But hear me out. Just look at this as more like the best lotion you could ever buy. It’s supposed to be tightening, but I wouldn’t say I really get that benefit of it. I use it as an all over lotion, and it’s just so good. The smell is amazing.
If the mother figure in your life has any interest in even slightly high end makeup products, they will probably already know what this is and know just even slightly how great it is.
8. ‘Mom’ Tea Towel, $22
You literally cannot go wrong with a tea towel for moms. I love that this one is so springy and fun! This would be a great item to tack on to a Mother’s Day gift basket or with the cookbooks I talked about above.
9. Initial Necklace, $50
I think this would be a great gift for any moms but especially the newer moms out there. I think it’s really special to get the initial of your (or whoever the child is) name. My brother and I both have an ‘L’ name, but my mom really doesn’t wear much jewelry so I haven’t committed to this for her quite yet.
10. Serving boards, $19.99-$39.99
Admittedly, I do not go to Target often. Whenever I do go though, I cannot tear my eyes away from both of these serving boards! They’re honestly stunning, and for the price? Even better. I’ve honestly considered picking one up for myself sometime soon!
This would be perfect with a pretty ribbon tied around. I think this is even more thoughtful after the year without gatherings we’ve all had. This will be perfect four mom the next time she hosts her friends or family.
11. Pura Scent device, $68
My mom and I both already have this, and we really like it. It’s basically a “smart” version of a wallflower from Bath and Body Works if you’re familiar with those. This is controlled completely by an app on your phone, and you can alternate between the two chosen scents, custom lighting options and more. There are a lot of different scents, and even some from capri blue (maker of the infamous volcano candle!).
I like that you can put the scent on a schedule to only diffuse when you want it to, not constantly running even when you’re not home like the wallflowers do.
My mom is self-proclaimed technology challenged, and she can even work this like a breeze! It really is so easy to set up, and it’s even easier to order refills of your favorite scents and change them out.
