Welcome

5 Items I’m Eyeing this Spring

February 8, 2021

I’ve explained my commitment to thinking through purchases intensely many times, but that process has never been as tested as it’s been lately. Everything in me wants to just splurge and get all these items at the same time because I just perfectly picture my life with these. I know it will be helpful to talk through them here, because I’m really trying to think intentionally through them.

Lululemon Yoga Mat

So many of you sent me messages when I asked about the value of this yoga mat on Instagram. I didn’t want to believe it was as great as I perceived it to be, but after talking with so many of you, I’m convinced it’s even better. I shared it in my Health Happies roundup, and I’ve not really stopped thinking about it since.

My one hesitation with making the plunge on this is the knowledge that we will definitely want two of these at some point. Preston and I work out a lot together (especially during WFH), making this a double investment. Then on the other hand, I worry when things get totally back to normal, I’ll never workout at home much again. The struggle is real!

I definitely want the black, medium thickness version, but they just restocked a ton of different colors and versions I noticed!

Veja Sneakers

I know these might be on the trendier side, but I believe they’re just classic enough to withstand the years. I’ve looked at the different styles and color ways dozens of times, but I think I finally decided I’d love this option. I think it would be just neutral enough to go with anything but still have the right amount of pop. How fun would this color be for Valentine’s Day?

They are quite the investment, but I know I would get a lot of use out of them.

Birkenstock Slides

My brother and Preston both have these slides, and I have to admit I am increasingly jealous of them and allllll the other people who own these. I just know they would be so useful, and the other slides I’ve had and used for a really long time are really worn out and honestly falling apart. I think these would be really easy to slip on for any activity and to clean once they get dirty.

There are so many different colors to pick from, but I honestly like the light silver a lot. I think they would match everything! The only other color I’d like going with would be a dark green, but I haven’t seen that color recently.

I honestly think $44 for these is really reasonable, but I did find these for $19 that I strongly considered. The color is amazing!

New Coffee Cups

A few years ago I thought I would like to collect the Starbucks “where you’ve been” mugs, I got quite a collection of these, but honestly I’m really over the busy look of them. Plus, now that we’re not really newlyweds anymore, I’m not interested in the marriage themed ones. The mix matched feel is just not doing it for me you know??

I’ve been looking around and Crate and Barrel really has a lot of good options. Preston and I are both leaning toward these, which I think are surprisingly affordable and cute. We’re probably going to order two first to see if we like them— there are so many variables with coffee cups. Is the handle comfortable, is it big enough, are they easy to stack in the cabinet? So many questions.

I also love the thought of these for cappuccinos and lattes, but we don’t have a ton of extra space for those right now. Someday when we have open shelving though??! Saving for later!

Dessert Person by Claire Saffitz

There were a ton of cookbooks I want right now, but Preston and I are particularly interested in Dessert Person. We’ve been watching Claire Saffitz’ new Youtube videos every week almost as soon as they come out, and I just know the recipes are amazing, yet doable.

Ingredients:
- 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 4–6 lemons), or more if you like it super tart!
- ¾ cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- 4 cups cold water
- Ice
- Lemon slices, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:
In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and the sugar. Heat over medium, stirring until sugar is completely dissolved to make a simple syrup. My grandma just put the sugar directly into the lemonade which was so delish! But I played around with doing this and think it incorporates really well.

Let cool, then mix with lemon juice and remaining 3 cups of cold water. Optional! The tiniest dash of vanilla extract and very thinly sliced lemons.

Taste and adjust sugar or water if needed.

Serve over ice and garnish with lemon slices.

I also made her brown butter broccolini from the same cookbook. Delish!
