To avoid thinking about the crazy fact that it’s already almost September, today’s post is a recap on all the books I read or listened to this month. I am so proud of how many books I was able to read this summer. If you were following along with my journey to read this much, did you meet your goal? Mine was to read eight books, and I finished the summer with a lot more crossed off my list!
This is probably the best book I have read all summer. It’s one of those that stuck with me even after reading and kept me wondering if there was any other information I could read about. It follows the story of a girl in the 50s-60s living in the Carolina marshlands. She is abandoned and left to live there on her own from a very young age, and I think you will quickly grow to love her character as I did. It is not very graphic or goes into too much gory detail of her survival, but it definitely makes you think about all the things a girl shouldn’t have to go through alone. I highly recommend this one!
I listened to this on audiobook, and I would recommend sticking with the audiobook over the actual book. It is told from the perspective of several different members of a band in the 60s and 70s, and it would be pretty confusing if you didn’t have the different voices to match each character. I really, really enjoyed this one, and I only wish this was a real band so I could listen to their music! It definitely gives me Fleetwood Mac vibes, and I did listen to them for several days after reading to get my fix. I believe it’s coming to Amazon Prime video next year, and I can’t wait to see how that is and who they cast.
This is one of my favorite movies right now, so I was hoping I would love the book just as much. I can’t decide which is better because both are equally amazing and different in a good way. The book has several different endings for the characters from the movie, but I think each left off at a great place. I read this book in less than 12 hours!
This was the sequel to Crazy Rich Asians, and I really liked it! It worked out perfectly, and I got off the waiting list for it at the library right after I finished CRA. I liked this book, but I can definitely say I liked the first installment in this series much better. This focused on a wider array of characters, and went into more detail about the characters who weren’t my very favorites. Also, the conflict in this one felt much more unrealistic than it did in the first. I still really liked it, and I will be the first person in the theatre if and when they make it a sequel!
Isn’t it funny how some months I might only read one physical book and listen to the rest on audiobook, but for this month I only listened to one audiobook. I love each version, and I am so glad we have the technology to utilize both! Let me know what you’re reading this month and if you checked out any of the books I have talked about this summer by messaging me on Instagram.
