Oscars Watch Party: Dorm Edition

February 26, 2019

If you know me in real life, you know that I love to throw themed parties! I look for any excuse to throw a small party and often find one when award show season comes around. I wanted to share a few things I did to throw this party together last minute- it seriously took me a little grocery store trip and 30 minutes to set up.

If you know me in real life, you know that I love to throw themed parties! I look for any excuse to throw a small party and often find one when award show season comes around. I wanted to share a few things I did to throw this party together last minute- it seriously took me a little grocery store trip and 30 minutes to set up.

1. Charcuterie boards- these are everywhere right now. I had been wanting to make one, but I didn’t want to spend $100 dollars on it. I found an assorted meat tray from Costco for $9.50 and this apparently famous cheese from Trader Joes. I already had some grapes, and my roommate had string cheese so we popped that on there too! I forgot crackers so I ran down to a little convenience store in our dorm and picked up Ritz crackers and Wheat Thins- if I had remembered to get some at the store I probably would have purchased a different kind, but they worked!

Ideally I would have had the black marble cheese tray set that I already purchased for mine and Preston’s future home…. but I had left it at my house out of fear of breaking it at the dorm. The only real plate we have in the dorm had to do, haha!

2. Letterboard- this is by far the easiest way to add festivity to a gathering. I change this board around once a month, and it’s fun to see my roommates and guests get involved in selecting the quote! Changing it to fit the party theme is so simple. Here is a similar Letterboard to mine, and here is one I wish I had- this one is from a family business, so if you feel like splurging, do it!!

3. Ballots & bingo- I usually get these printed in color on card stock ahead of time, but I dropped the ball this year and printed them on my black and white printer at home. They were way cuter last year, but oh well! The bingo cards and the #1 way to keep people invested in the award show. The ballots are fun, but none of us are very good at guessing, haha!

I hope those are a few, good tips on tricks for a low key dorm party! Let me know if you have any specific questions by messaging me on instagram, hoping to get blog commenting soon!

Have a great week everyone!

🍋 lemonade recipe to enjoy all summer long: I 🍋 lemonade recipe to enjoy all summer long:

Ingredients:
- 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 4–6 lemons), or more if you like it super tart!
- ¾ cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- 4 cups cold water
- Ice
- Lemon slices, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:
In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and the sugar. Heat over medium, stirring until sugar is completely dissolved to make a simple syrup. My grandma just put the sugar directly into the lemonade which was so delish! But I played around with doing this and think it incorporates really well.

Let cool, then mix with lemon juice and remaining 3 cups of cold water. Optional! The tiniest dash of vanilla extract and very thinly sliced lemons.

Taste and adjust sugar or water if needed.

Serve over ice and garnish with lemon slices.

I also made her brown butter broccolini from the same cookbook. Delish!
