Welcome

Trends I’m loving this season

November 13, 2018

featured-image

Hi friends!

Today I am going to talk about trends. I once saw this quote on Pinterest that said “trendy is one step before tacky”….. um, what? I read that during those preppy days in the 2012-2014 years, and I actually lived by it. Now in the year 2018, style has become much more centered on self expression and less on one specific movement. I often wonder how people will dress at decade parties themed for 2010, because who can really put a pin in what we are all wearing right now? It jumps around month by month!

Now that I have a love and appreciation for trends, I wanted to do a post about all of my favorite trends that have been gaining popularity in the past year and the ones I think will carry on through this winter. I have a few of my own and several that my Instagram followers suggested.

Mini scarves– I love, love the small scarf trend! In my hair, around my neck, tied on my purse- I can’t get enough. I have grown my collected to three, each perfect for a specific season.

Here are the scarves I have been loving.

Ankle length, frayed denim- I bought my first pair of ankle length denim last year, and I have been obsessed since. This year I got a pair of Lucky brand jeans with frayed ends. I have been wearing them like crazy. My favorite part of ankle length is the ability to wear higher boots and fun socks!

Here are my favorite jeans for this season.

Mock neck sweaters- loving the turtle neck tend but don’t want to feel like you’re suffocating? Mock necks are the answer. They give that cozy, warm vibe without being restricting.

Here is my favorite mock neck sweater.

Mixed patterns- I am not sure that there is a season where this is out of trend for me. I think the easiest pattern to mix with is stripes. Right now I am a big fan of stripes with leopard and camouflage with stripes.

Camouflage- speaking of camo, I have surprisingly been loving this trend. Every time I wear it I think my friends are going to die from laughter, but I am fully in support of feminine, camo additions to my wardrobe. My only camo pieces are two jackets, one utility style and one girly rain jacket.

Here is one of the cutest camo pieces of the moment.

Velvet- So, so happy this trend is back again this year. I wore it as much as possible last holiday season, but this year I was even able to break it out for a concert in August. I think it’s really easy to incorporate into every day outfits.

I love this new top from Nordstrom that Dress Up Buttercup designed!

Hats- floppy, berets, and toboggans, oh my! For a while, it seemed only bloggers with crazy, fancy events wore fashionable hats with their outfits. Lately, I have seen people in everyday life wearing hats, and I am here for it! If you saw any of my Italy posts, you would know I am a hat girl.

Here are my favorites in each popular category

– Berets

– Western/floppy

– Toboggan

Thanks for sticking around for this long, fashion post! If you all like the trend posts I would be happy to cover one trend a week- series are so fun for me! Have a great Tuesday.

Ingredients:
- 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 4–6 lemons), or more if you like it super tart!
- ¾ cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- 4 cups cold water
- Ice
- Lemon slices, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:
In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and the sugar. Heat over medium, stirring until sugar is completely dissolved to make a simple syrup. My grandma just put the sugar directly into the lemonade which was so delish! But I played around with doing this and think it incorporates really well.

Let cool, then mix with lemon juice and remaining 3 cups of cold water. Optional! The tiniest dash of vanilla extract and very thinly sliced lemons.

Taste and adjust sugar or water if needed.

Serve over ice and garnish with lemon slices.

I also made her brown butter broccolini from the same cookbook. Delish!
