This made me decide to go for it and place an order in the spring, English Garden Hill House Home nap dress launch. My First Order + How I Prepared
Along with seemingly everyone else on the internet, I dutifully conducted my research and signed on to the website at the exact launch time to place my order in under one minute.
I still couldn’t convince myself that the order really went through, even after receiving the order confirmation. Until the dress showed up on my doorstep, I was in a state of disbelief— these dresses are usually hard to come by. Insider information (the founder’s Instagram) revealed they actually ordered 3.5x their normal stock for this launch, which I’m hoping they will continue!
Well, my Nap Dress showed up on my doorstep before I had even received a shipping notification. Luckily I had just ordered two of these tissue turtlenecks, in black and white, to complete my wintertime Nap Dress look. I slipped it on almost instantly, and here we are today.
Hill House Nap Dress Sizing + What to Know Before Ordering
I was instantly drawn to the Ellie design. It’s just the right mix of feminine, elegant and casual. This led me to research more on the common disclaimer that these run oversized. Here’s a little bit more about the size I ordered and my body type to help guide you on your decision.
Per Hill House’s general recommendation, I sized down one size and ordered an XS in the Ellie Nap Dress.
I’m around 5’8, 150 lbs, with a small chest and broad shoulders. I generally range from a small to a medium, leaning more toward a medium if it’s anything tight fitting. Since this dress is completely loose and flowy on the bottom and features elasticated smocking, meaning the top completely forms to your body, I decided to go down truly 1.5 sizes with the XS.
I’ve also heard people get their true size and end up being completely fine, I really think it just depends on how close you are to one size or another. Maybe consider your bust size as well, but truly with the elasticated smocking, this is going to shrink and stretch to fit your body.
Length was one feature I was worried about, but I think this dress is so well designed it looks good no matter your height. If you’re on the shorter side, your dress may look more like a maxi. If you’re taller like me, this dress will be a flattering midi.
How to Style the Hill House Home Ellie Nap Dress
As I mentioned before, I luckily ordered tissue turtlenecks just before the launch. I think these are a great staple wardrobe piece to have, nap dress or not.

If you live in a climate with a *true* winter, the Nap Dress may only get worn inside during the cold months. I am not sure this could be transitioned for wearing out during freezing temperatures. We live in the moderate Tennessee weather, so I was able to just layer a tissue turtleneck underneath. I only wore this inside, but if I needed a shoe, I would probably go with something like these.
Are Hill House Nap Dresses Worn Inside or Outside?
I know this was a question I had before purchasing my nap dress. Just the term “nap dress” makes you think it’s to be worn lounging around the house. They are definitely perfect for that, but I think they’re beautiful worn outside too. They’re not sheer (unless otherwise stated, some are made specifically to be worn as pajamas), so you’re totally good to dress these up! They lend themselves to so many styles.
Are the Hill House Nap Dresses Worth the Price?
Yes! They are incredibly fabulous and make me feel extra chic. I felt incredibly beautiful when I put it on, and I truly don’t think you could find the the same silhouette at a cheaper price point yet. The fabric wasn’t as luxurious as I thought it would be, but I appreciate that the material probably doesn’t wrinkly badly at all. These can be dressed up, dressed down, worn in or out. It’s truly the dress that does it all!
Especially getting the dress at $105 using the discount I discuss below, I am really happy with my investment.
