I know “Day Camping” is probably an odd term, but Preston and I feel like that’s exactly what we did this past Saturday. We (and our newly married next door neighbors!) loaded up and drove an hour to a little spot near Preston’s house where we have camped before. The weather was supposed to be horrible, so we had cancelled our plans of spending the night, but when we woke up that morning it was the most beautiful day ever! That’s just what happens when you live in Tennessee during the summer.
We stuck with our plan of just spending the day, and I am so glad we did. We had a yummy breakfast prepared by my neighbor/friend complete with these delicious scones. After getting all packed up, we headed out and made it to our spot around 1 p.m. Preston got started on cleaning his guns (#guythings), and Drew got the fire started so we could get our late lunch cooking. Fun fact, Drew is an Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts of America, and he is literally an expert fire builder. I couldn’t believe how fast he got it going.
We each created our own chicken and veggies packets! MC had cut up chicken, bell peppers, onions, squash, zucchini and brought along all kinds of spices and sauces to flavor each packet uniquely. Drew got our packets cooking, and it was delicious to say the least!
The rest of the day was spent watching the guys shoot skeet (MC even got involved a little bit!), make s’mores, play games and relax in hammocks and picnic blankets. It was honestly so peaceful, and I already can’t wait to do it again.
If this post does anything, I hope it inspires you to explore your safe “vacation” options in this new and unique time. No one knows when things are going to get back to normal, and If anyone is like me- the travel bug has set in. I even wrote a post with my best tips for feeling like you’re on vacation in the midst of a global pandemic.
This was a super simple expedition that really didn’t cost us much at all. I am going to link a few things that we took, but I honestly think this type of trip would have been doable with just a blanket and some food!
