Welcome

Loren’s Yeehaw Beer Chili

December 9, 2020

This beer chili is mouthwateringly delicious, and it’s definitely a classic in our house. The warm and nutty notes of the Yeehaw beer in this chili hit all the right chili points for me, and I think you (and your entire family) will like it too.

What better for a winter Wednesday than a yummy bowl of chili? Even better— a slow cooker chili!

Chili is one of my favorite foods. It is my mom’s absolute favorite food, and I think her love of it definitely transferred over to me through the years. I’ve made many different chilis in the past year, but last weekend, none of the recipes I have used before felt right. I wanted a classic chili with no fuss, not a lot of beans and a smoky, winter flavor. Nothing I found looked just right, so with the help of my mom, I made my own recipe.

This one is mainly an adaptation from the chili my mom puts together really often, but just with the addition of the beer to give it a new flavor profile!

My mom’s biggest tip was using Italian sausage as well as ground beef. I think I’ll always incorporate this into my chili from now on.

Chili hot pinto beans can be sort of difficult to find, so I usually end up just using mild.

Please, please don’t skip the bay leaf! If you don’t have any bay leaves, I think it’s worth it to pick up a package. They’ll last you for a good while, and it easily adds so much flavor to the meal.

Before you go, I wanted to share this amazing beer bread recipe I love to make with this (and other meals!) that’s seriously so easy.

I love using the ground beef and mild Italian sausage both! The sausage adds really good flavor and a new spice element to the chili.

Enjoy! Please let me know on Instagram if you end up making this chili.

If you’re looking for other food bloggers (who are way more professional than I am!), you guys know I am obsessed with Halfbaked Harvest. I also love following my friend @honeybeedishin on Instagram- her recipes are incredible. When I’m looking for baked goods, you seriously can’t go wrong with anything from Elisabeth and Butter, especially the s’mores cookies!

This is an extra special post today, because it’s actually the first time I am sharing a recipe I created myself. Now, this recipe post won’t be as fancy and have all the caloric, serving size, time, etc information, because I completely wing it when it comes to things like that. My deepest apologies if that’s what you’re looking for here, but otherwise it’s just going to be the ingredients and the process. At the end of this post, I’ll recommend some lovely food bloggers I follow and use recipes from constantly!

Ingredients:
- 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 4–6 lemons), or more if you like it super tart!
- ¾ cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- 4 cups cold water
- Ice
- Lemon slices, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:
In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and the sugar. Heat over medium, stirring until sugar is completely dissolved to make a simple syrup. My grandma just put the sugar directly into the lemonade which was so delish! But I played around with doing this and think it incorporates really well.

Let cool, then mix with lemon juice and remaining 3 cups of cold water. Optional! The tiniest dash of vanilla extract and very thinly sliced lemons.

Taste and adjust sugar or water if needed.

Serve over ice and garnish with lemon slices.

I also made her brown butter broccolini from the same cookbook. Delish!
