For years I have been told that Venice is dirty, smells bad, there isn’t much to see, and you only need to spend a few hours there. Coming from someone who only had three hours to spend there, I can confidently say, a few hours isn’t enough!!
I arrived at the train station (Venezia Santa Lucia is the best one to arrive in) and checked my backpack so I could explore the city without having to worry about pickpockets. The checked bag at the train station was only 12 euros for express, all day service. It was really handy!
St. Mark’s Basilica was amazing! I wanted to go inside, but there wasn’t enough time!
Immediately after walking out of the train station I was overwhelmed by how neat the city was and how excited I was to be in such an iconic place. The flowers were all bloomed, gondolas were drifting down the grand canal, and the sky was the perfect level of gloomy (just how I like it).
We ate lunch somewhere on one of the side streets, but I would highly recommend splurging here and getting a restaurant with a canal view. We mainly walked around the shops, the main square of the city, and got lots of pictures near the cute little boats!
Venice was just one of those places that immediately had a magical feeling. I am almost surprised there isn’t a little part of Harry Potter set there, ha! Venice is on my list of places I want to return to someday. It is definitely a must see!
We had a long day of travel so I opted for this comfy romper from Anthropologie, leather sandals from Chaco, and my Brixton hat! I wouldn’y recommend wearing a hat in Venice because it is very windy!
