Hello spring break! I have been on spring break mode since Friday afternoon when I had the day off work and Preston and I headed west to Nashville for the weekend. It was my first time visiting Nashville for more than a quick concert trip or leadership conference and our first time visiting the music city together.
I will do a full spring break recap next week, but for now I wanted to fill you guys in on our trip to Nashville. Here’s what we did for a weekend in Nashville!
Friday // eat
We arrived in Nashville around 2 p.m. (that time change really helps on the way there!) and got settled in at the house of some of Preston’s family members who we were staying with. We both had some assignments that were due that evening so we headed out to Frothy Monkey on 12 South. We stayed there a drank two large iced lattes until we finished our homework around 5:30 p.m.
What came next was some serious food hopping and shopping down 12 South.
After going in Draper James and Madewell, we went to Millcreek Brewing Co. and got some delicious french fries! The fries were followed by a donut at Five Daughters bakery (we got the king kong) and finally chips and guac at Taqueria del Sol.
At the last minute I noticed an Outdoor Voices store and wanted to go in so badly, but sadly they were closed. I had never heard of the brand until Krista from Covering the Bases did a post comparing their two popular styles.
We headed back toward Mt. Juliet where we were staying for the weekend and caught the game at a restaurant called the Goat. We got the fried cauliflower and a piece of pie for dessert as we watched the Vols play (they won!).
Saturday // Shop + Scoot
Because of the hour time difference in Nashville, I kept waking up early. At 6:30 a.m. on Saturday morning I was wide awake and ready for the day. I texted Preston to see if he was awake, and he begrudgingly woke up and started getting ready so we could head out on the town.
We ended up catching a ride into Nashville with Preston’s family so we could save money on parking and gas. I am so glad we did this because we got to try out the scooters I am sure you have all seen popping up around big cities- more on these later.
They dropped us off at Pinewood Social, a hip bowling alley with really delicious food. I got the chicken + biscuits and a vanilla latte- so good. We didn’t have time to bowl, but I think that would be so fun if you had a big group or bachelorette party.
We got an Uber to drop us off in the Gulch and popped into Milk & Honey. There I got the Milk & Honey latte, which was really yummy, but I wish I had tried the Burnt Sugar latte which my friend Alyson recommended to me after I posted we went there. They had really tasty looking cookies too!
After that we shopped around the Gulch, checking out Kittenish, Urban Outfitters, Two Old Hippies and several other stores! Two Old Hippies was so, so cute- we wanted everything in there! I did end up getting a hat from Urban Outfitters because I couldn’t find one like I was looking for at Two Old Hippies. I am really happy with my new hat!
So the best part of Saturday may have been the scooters. We decided to use Bird as our scooter brand of choice because they seemed to be the most popular in Nashville, but there are several other brands to pick from!
We had heard from people of all ages that these were easy to ride, but I had my doubts. I am very uncoordinated and tend to get nervous riding around busy streets, but I was amazed by how easily I was able to control these. They were fairly inexpensive to ride and made things go so much faster. The only downside is I usually walk off all the calories I consume while on vacation, and the scooters really limit your activity level. Preston and I quit riding them once the $10 we both loaded ran out so we could walk off all the carbs we had eaten. I hope the scooters are here to stay because they were a total game changer in what we were able to see and do.
After the shopping and scooting, we hopped off our birds at Tailgate on Music Row to watch the Vols play Kentucky. They had a lot of good pizza options, and we watched the game for so long there (we won!!).
We met up with Preston’s family (again by scooter), and rode back towards Mt. Juliet to eat at a Mexican restaurant. We then went to the Mt. Juliet shopping center and went in TJ Maxx, Homegoods and Books a Million! I wasn’t in the shopping mood, but those are our three favorite stores so we couldn’t resist going in the huge ones!
I went to bed at 10 p.m. because I was exhausted!
Sunday // Game time
I was ready to go out the door by 8 a.m. on Sunday because we had tickets to watch the Vols play in the SEC tournament. We drove into the city and parked at the Nashville Public Library because it’s fairly cheap parking and it’s close to the interstate for a speedy exit.
We walked a few blocks to Puckett’s and got breakfast there. It was packed! The food was okay, but I would definitely get something besides the traditional breakfast spread next time. We then made our way to Bridgestone to watch the Vols play (and they lost- sad).
Finally we headed back to East Tennessee! It was truly the perfect start to spring break. One of the most exciting parts was realizing that I get to travel with Preston for the rest of my life- yay!! I can’t wait until we can find any and every excuse for a weekend trip once we are married.
I hope everyone is having a great spring break- I can’t wait to recap my entire week soon!
