All about Essential Oils

October 25, 2018

I feel like a new craze hits the market every few years, and just in the past couple years Essential Oils have gotten so popular. I am not one to hop on every product bandwagon, but I am all about Young Living Essential Oils. They can be seen as a hippie thing, but I think they are useful and fun when used correctly! Today I want to talk about my favorite products and uses for essential oils!

Brand: I am a loyal Young Living girl! There are a lot of other brands out there, but YL seems to most trustworthy and pure to me. They aren’t the cheapest, but the oils that I find myself using the most are usually in the $15-$30 price range. The diffusers from YL are great quality and not bad looking like some I have seen.

Products + Uses:

Starter Kit- This is hands down the best value they offer and the best thing for beginners. It includes ten of the most commonly used oils and the diffuser. This is how almost everyone gets their start in the YL sphere because the kit makes it so easy!

Peppermint oil-

– Pain relief: i always rub this oil on when I have a headache, sore muscles, or a crick in my neck. It is also great for people with arthritis!

– Nausea: Mix in 1-2 drops of peppermint oil into a large glass of water and it can usually settle an upset stomach. Don’t put too much peppermint in                 though because it is very strong!

Lavender-

– Diffuse: I put this oil in my diffuser to calm nerves and help with winding down for bed.

Lemon-

– Lemon oil tastes great in water! Make sure to use a glass container because essential oils and plastic don’t mix well!

Combine peppermint, lavender, and lemon for a great allergy relief blend! I diffuse those three together to help with draining all of those seasonal problems. What’s great about this combo is the price- these three oils are some of the most affordable!

Stress Away- This blend is perfect for college students. It has a powdery, calming scent. I mix it into almost every diffuser blend I make!

Ravintsara- This smells just like a cough drop. It’s perfect for a sore throat or stopped up nose!

Idaho Blue Spruce- Ahhh, I wish I had an unlimited amount of this oil. It smells like men’s cologne but better!

Christmas Spirit-  Being festive is my favorite hobby. This has the perfect blend of Christmas scents!

Thieves- named after grave robbers from the black plague, this oil is great for immunity defense and healing.

Those are all of my favorite oils! I hope you all give oils a try, they really are better than I could have ever thought. Have a great Thursday!

Ingredients:
- 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 4–6 lemons), or more if you like it super tart!
- ¾ cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- 4 cups cold water
- Ice
- Lemon slices, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:
In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and the sugar. Heat over medium, stirring until sugar is completely dissolved to make a simple syrup. My grandma just put the sugar directly into the lemonade which was so delish! But I played around with doing this and think it incorporates really well.

Let cool, then mix with lemon juice and remaining 3 cups of cold water. Optional! The tiniest dash of vanilla extract and very thinly sliced lemons.

Taste and adjust sugar or water if needed.

Serve over ice and garnish with lemon slices.

I also made her brown butter broccolini from the same cookbook. Delish!
