Welcome

Reflection on encouragement

March 5, 2019

Hi people!! Today’s post is a little bit different.

I have been noticing lately that my biggest personality trait is being supportive. I have tons of friends, acquaintances and family members who are pursuing their own business or project, and I have found myself being spurred to act with support and encouragement. I am the first person to say “go for it!!” when a friend mentions starting a scary, new pursuit. Why do I feel compelled to dive headfirst into Read more

Oscars Watch Party: Dorm Edition

February 26, 2019

If you know me in real life, you know that I love to throw themed parties! I look for any excuse to throw a small party and often find one when award show season comes around. I wanted to share a few things I did to throw this party together last minute- it seriously took me a little grocery store trip and 30 minutes to set up.

If you know me in real life, you know that I love to throw themed parties! I look for any excuse to throw a small party and often find one when award show season comes around. I wanted to share a few things I did to throw this party together last minute- it seriously took me a little grocery store trip and 30 minutes to set up.

1. Charcuterie boards- these are everywhere right now. I had been wanting to make one, but I didn’t want to spend $100 dollars on it. I found an assorted meat tray from Costco for $9.50 and this apparently famous cheese from Trader Joes. I already had some grapes, and my roommate had string cheese so we popped that on there too! I forgot crackers so I ran down to a little convenience store in our dorm and picked up Ritz crackers and Wheat Thins- if I had remembered to get some at the store I probably would have purchased a different kind, but they worked!

Ideally I would have had the black marble cheese tray set that I already purchased for mine and Preston’s future home…. but I had left it at my house out of fear of breaking it at the dorm. The only real plate we have in the dorm had to do, haha!

2. Letterboard- this is by far the easiest way to add festivity to a gathering. I change this board around once a month, and it’s fun to see my roommates and guests get involved in selecting the quote! Changing it to fit the party theme is so simple. Here is a similar Letterboard to mine, and here is one I wish I had- this one is from a family business, so if you feel like splurging, do it!!

3. Ballots & bingo- I usually get these printed in color on card stock ahead of time, but I dropped the ball this year and printed them on my black and white printer at home. They were way cuter last year, but oh well! The bingo cards and the #1 way to keep people invested in the award show. The ballots are fun, but none of us are very good at guessing, haha!

I hope those are a few, good tips on tricks for a low key dorm party! Let me know if you have any specific questions by messaging me on instagram, hoping to get blog commenting soon!

Have a great week everyone!

3 ways to reduce your screen time

February 19, 2019

I know a lot of college students are feeling the stress with tests and homework, but I love finding time for writing blog posts. It’s my weekly relaxation time. One other thing I do to “relax” is check my social media, which I actually do not like doing! I realized a few weeks ago just how much time I spend on social media, and it really opened my eyes to how much more time I would have to live outside my phone if I checked it much less. I started exploring ways to cut back, and I thought I would share today. These three steps have really started working for me! Read more

My favorite super bowl ads

February 7, 2019

featured-image

Hi everyone! I hope you all enjoyed the super bowl, but if I had to guess I would say you didn’t because it was considered boring by the general population. While I have to agree, I mainly watch the super bowl for the commercials and the half time performance. Since I am a public relations major, and a lot of what we have to do can border the advertising industry, I love to critique and comment on ads. I wanted to pull some of my favorites from the super bowl and let you guys know what I think! Read more

2019 Goals

January 3, 2019

featured-image

Happy New Year friends! It is officially 2019 (will this be the year I nail switching over from ’18 to ’19 when dating papers?), and with that comes the either dreaded or embraced New Years’ Resolutions. Today I wanted to share my goals for two reasons- first, because I want to be held accountable and writing them down is the best way to remind myself and second, because I find reading others’ goals SO inspiring. Here are a few goals I am trying to keep in 2019! Read more

featured-image

Hello friends! I took a short break from posting to fully enjoy Christmas break with my family, and I am happy to be back. Preston and I are also back on our movie grind- we have plans to see five movies before school starts back- hopefully we can do it! We saw over 30 movies in theaters in 2018, which is a new record for us. Today’s post is a movie review on “Mary Poppins Returns” starring Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Read more

I have read the books and watched the movies countless times, and each time I grow to love them more and more if it’s even possible. I have also gotten my mom hooked on them, too! Last year we started putting together a Harry Potter Inspired Christmas tree, and we have loved it so much. Today I wanted to share a few pictures of our tree and what ornaments you can find online to recreate it. Read more

🍋 lemonade recipe to enjoy all summer long: I 🍋 lemonade recipe to enjoy all summer long:

Ingredients:
- 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 4–6 lemons), or more if you like it super tart!
- ¾ cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- 4 cups cold water
- Ice
- Lemon slices, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:
In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and the sugar. Heat over medium, stirring until sugar is completely dissolved to make a simple syrup. My grandma just put the sugar directly into the lemonade which was so delish! But I played around with doing this and think it incorporates really well.

Let cool, then mix with lemon juice and remaining 3 cups of cold water. Optional! The tiniest dash of vanilla extract and very thinly sliced lemons.

Taste and adjust sugar or water if needed.

Serve over ice and garnish with lemon slices.
