Preston and I have never been (and probably never will be) huge beach people. Or semi-beach people at all. It’s a little bit scary to admit, but neither of us like the beach or tropical environments at all really. We will always, always pick somewhere else-even the arctic circle over going to the beach. Will we still go to the beach? Yes, vacations in any form are such a blessing. Will we enjoy ourselves in a city surrounding a beach? Probably! But, it’s just never the type of vacation we set out for.
That said, when we settled on going to Charleston for our anniversary, I knew we would not be going to the beach. This left walking around the city, eating at the numerous amazing restaurants and shopping on King St. for the remainder of our time in this city! I had been to Charleston before and knew the shopping scene was really good, so I was excited to use some Christmas gift cards and window shop a little bit.
Today I thought it would be fun to share what I wore and bought/window shopped in Charleston! Don’t worry- a full write up of where we went and what we ate is coming very soon! I just wanted to get this in there too and share somethings before they sell out.
What I Wore for Charleston in January
I’m the first to admit, I had a very hard time packing! The weather was showing POURING rain for our entire trip, and the highs were around 70 one day and around 66 the others, while the lows were sticking around high 50s. I packed way too many cold weather clothes and not enough warm weather options! We pulled up to the hotel, and I swear I saw more people in shorts and tank tops than long sleeves and pants.
First Night // NYE
The dress I wore is a few years old, and sadly I cannot find anything similar at all! It was a sparkly tweed mini-dress, and I was so glad to finally find the perfect opportunity to wear it. It’s been hanging inactive in my closet for too long. My earrings are from my wedding and are Untamed Petals brand!
Day 1 //
Ok, I told you guys I didn’t pack the right thing! This outfit was so neutral, especially compared to Rainbow Row, but at least I’m able to laugh with myself! These jeans are one of the pairs I just got for Christmas, I love them so, so much. Be on the lookout for a Madewell denim review coming soon!
My Barrington Gifts St. Anne tote was the perfect bag for today. We wanted to bring our rain coats and other things just in case the weather turned. We ended up carrying all our shopping in it as well!
Also, full transparency. I wore these shoes just for the photo! They aren’t very comfortable at all. For the rest of the day, I had on my trusty VINCE sneakers.
Day 2 //
This was day it was *supposed* to rain, but it never really did! It rained way more on NYE than it did this day. My rain jacket is sold out sadly, but I linked a few similars if you click the ‘shop the post’ link below!
These boots are usually extremely comfortable, but I didn’t bring the right socks, and they ended up leaving some pretty bad blisters! I’m really eyeing these sneakers for the next time we go on a trip involving a lot of walking (but also thinking about saving $$ and going for this pair!) These masks were both our favorites on the trip! They are SO good, especially for the price.
Drive Home //
I don’t have a photo of this, but I wore my navy leggings, the new lululemon shirt I bought and my LL Bean pullover that I’ve been recently obsessed with.
What I Bought + Where We Shopped In Charleston
Charleston’s King Street is pretty well known for its shopping. We didn’t know how bad the crowds would be in stores, but the stores were the least crowded of all the featured places in the city.
I actually only purchased this lululemon long sleeve that I had been eyeing for months and a white t-shirt from Madewell that I can’t seem to find online yet! I wore both before we had even made it home. I linked some of the other things I saw and had a hard time walking away from though.
We went into a book store, and I was sooo close to picking this up, but I have a ton of other ones I need to get to first! Preston read the description and said he thinks he would like it too.
H&M must really be up on its trends because there was a huge section of just neutral, minimalistic and baggy loungewear sets. It really made me want one, I am not going to lie. The sweatpants really looked so comfortable.

Hopefully this was a brief glimpse into our time in Charleston mixed in with the outfit inspiration. I cannot wait to roundup where we ate, because let’s face it- food is the most important part of any vacation!
