Saying we’re obsessed with our Joybird Lewis Sectional is an understatement. This couch was a huge investment for us, but we have been so incredibly happy with it after having it for the past five months. I waited to write this Joybird Lewis Sectional Review until we had really tested it out, and I’m happy to say we have all the details now!
Joybird Lewis Sectional Review
This sectional, which starts at $4,113, is obviously a huge investment for your home, so you’re probably finding yourself doing a little bit of research before making the plunge. I know we thought long and hard about this piece, and we looked at dozens (maybe hundreds) of photos and reviews before ordering ours.
So what exact Lewis Sectional do we have? Ours is the left chaise Lewis Sectional in the fabric ‘Cody Sandstone.’ Joybird has three tiers of fabrics that are all priced differently and meet different needs, so we’ll definitely get into that later.
Joybird Lewis Sectional Review: Is the Joybird Lewis Sectional Worth it?
The first question on your mind is probably, “How can this couch be worth this price tag?” Well, my mom has worked in the furniture business for more than 35 years, and she helps me understand a little bit about the way furniture is made and what sets apart a great couch from a good couch. This sectional and this entire company definitely is situated in the great category, and making an investment in something you spend so much time on is worth it to me and my entire family.
Joybird is a La-Z-Boy brand, and the entire company has a decades long great reputation for a reason. These furniture pieces are just going to last much longer and stay much more comfortable for the duration of its lifecycle than the couches you can order from Target or Ikea.
You have to think about cost per use. Yes, this is a huge investment, but think about the hours and hours you spend on your couch and just how quickly a cheaply made piece is going to break down over time. Furniture gets a lot of wear and tear, and no matter how nice your furniture is, it’s still going to wear down. Do you want to buy a $500 couch every year or a $4,000 couch every ten years? Besides saving money, landfill space and general hassle, you’re probably going to be much happier overall with a great couch as opposed to one that’s just okay.
My 6’4 husband for size reference haha! This was the moment we got it, so it was fresh off the truck and super nicely fluffed.
What Do I like about the Joybird Lewis Sectional?
-
The Joybird Lewis Sectional is Extremely Deep
- I think the biggest thing that sets this sectional apart from others is it’s depth. When I’m sitting on the regular side of the couch (without the chaise) my legs barely reach all the way to the front of the couch, and I’m taller than the average female. If you were hosting guests, it could be used as a bed in a pinch because it’s basically the depth of a twin size bed.
-
It’s Low Profile
- Even though I just said it’s extremely deep, it’s also somehow simultaneously low profile. We live in a pretty tight quarters apartment, and somehow this takes up as much room as a regular couch but makes use of every single inch of the space. It is a “shorter” couch, so keep in mind if you want to sit exactly straight up on it, it’s not going to cover your entire back more than likely. The tops of my shoulders aren’t covered by the couch when I’m sitting slightly slouched, but if I’m all the way laid down it’s sooo soft and comfortable without feeling like you’re being swallowed by the couch.
My dad likes to sit straight up, and he’s 6’4 in height, and he did mention he felt like he couldn’t sit straight up as well as he would like to. He’s used to a recliner that fits his entire body though think!
-
It feels really sturdy
- I’ve sat on more than one couch in my life that just felt like it was going to buckle under you, shift back and forth with the slightest movement, etc., this couch just feels solid. You can definitely tell the materials are high quality when you sit on it, and it also just looks more well made than most couches.
-
It accommodates a lot of people
- You can easily fit 4-5 people on this couch and probably 6 if everyone was really comfortable with each other. We have noticed guests shy away from the chaise side because you basically end up laying down on it, so whenever we host people we try to sit on the chaise side so they don’t have to feel like they have to curl up or otherwise be uncomfortable. This couch would be perfect for a family room that doesn’t see a ton of guests or only sees friends that are basically family, because if someone isn’t super comfortable in your home sits here, they might feel like it’s hard to sit politely if that makes sense?
-
Modern, Beautiful Design
- I know this is just personal preference, but this piece is just our style! I love how modern, yet classic and retro it manages to look all at the same time. If this style isn’t your favorite, please look at the other Joybird designs because they really have something for everyone.

What Do I Not Like about the Joybird Lewis Sectional?
I have one, singular issue with our Joybird Lewis Sectional, and it’s more an annoyance than anything. The cushions are not attached to the couch (which is a pro if you did end up needing to replace one of the cushions, get it cleaned, etc.), and because of the sleek minimal style of the two pillow top cushions, there’s not much force keeping them firmly against the frame of the couch.
Over time (i’m talking week to week, day to day), the bottom cushions slide away from the frame, and the back cushions slide down into that gap that’s created. This can make the couch look a little dumpy/frumpy, but you really just need to take all the cushions off/slide them back into place once a week to get it looking fresh again. Then it’s good as new!
One thing that has really helped us is putting non-slip pads in between the frame and our cushions. It really keeps them in place! If you’re ordering this sofa, I highly recommend getting a pack of these to save you some time sliding the cushions back in- this will help preserve the shape and quality of the cushions over time too.

What is the Ordering Process Like?
I first ordered a sample swatch kit from the Joybird website, and that was really the first step in the ordering process for me. The swatch kit can take a while to come, so if you’re even slightly considering a couch I would order them as quickly as possible so you don’t potentially miss one of their sales! Once I figured out which fabric we wanted, I then decided which side we wanted the chaise on and then my order was placed.
Their factory ships into Southern California, so it got to me in Northern California really quickly. It was delivered and assembled straight up to my door.
Which Joybird Fabric Tier is Best?
There are three Joybird fabric tiers, and each one fits a specific need.
- Tier 1: If you have no kids, no dogs, don’t spend every waking moment on your couch, tier 1 is a great option for you! If you’re on a budget, it’s still a great fabric. Joybird more than likely is able to buy this fabric in bulk and has it stocked more frequently, so they’re able to offer it at a better value.
- Tier 2: These fabrics are just a higher notch of quality and will look a little more luxe.
- Tier 3: This is the tier we have, and the fabrics in this tier are about $360 more and come with a little more endurance. If you have pets, use your couch a ton, this could be worth it in the long run!
So it’s really up to you to decide which of those fabrics sound like they’re going to work best for you! We’re really happy with our high performance, tier 3 fabric because our couch is the only place to sit in our entire apartment (besides our barstools), so it gets a lot more use than the traditional couch.
Does Joybird Offer Sales Frequently?
Yes. Do not buy the Joybird sectional full price because they are almost always running a 25% off sale or something of the sorts. The 30% is the highest discount I have seen, so if you see that pop up, I think it’s the time to pull the trigger! If they don’t currently have a sale, just give it a few weeks and practice some patience! It can save you hundreds.
I hope this Joybird Lewis Sectional Review was helpful in the Joybird decision making process. Again, I can’t recommend this company enough even if you aren’t looking at the Lewis sectional in particular. Please comment any other questions you might have, and I would be more than happy to answer or continue adding on to the post.
