Welcome

Life lately

November 23, 2019

Hello there! It’s felt like the longest time since I sat down and wrote a blog post. That might be because it has been a while- almost three weeks. I don’t think I have ever taken that long of a break from blogging, but I just knew anything I produced was not going to be very high quality or even coherent. Life was busy. The last published post was our couples shower, and since then, I wrapped up the club I am the president of for the semester, went to watch UTK play in Lexington, finished a lot of last minute wedding details, wrote so many thank you cards from our two bridal showers (so blessed to say I am not even finished yet!), finished my senior capstone class (my group won!), interviewed for a spring internship (more to come on that soon!) and tried to fit in exercising, socializing,  working more than 20 hours a week at my internship and fulfilling my role as an ambassador at my college.

Whew.

Thankfully, I have the best support system in the world. Preston, my mom, my roommates and so many of my friends kept me going through the past three weeks, and I truly couldn’t have done it without them. I also feel I was receiving so much grace from God, because it wasn’t until the beginning of this week that I really started feeling the toll of all these activities. Now that I am on the downhill slope to the end of the semester, and the wedding, I feel so thankful for my life.

During all these activities, the blog would pop up on my mind every Tuesday or Thursday when I didn’t have a post to publish. Luckily, every time a blog post idea came to mind, I created a draft, so I have a few ideas to get back to regularly scheduled programming around here.

As I write this, I have just finished a really great class at barre3, came over to see Preston at the condo, made a coffee in the Nespresso machine we received at one of our showers and am snuggled on the couch listening to the rain. It’s honestly my ideal situation. I have prioritized little moments like this during this month, which also explains my lack of posts on Instagram- there have been no pretty outfits or beautiful moments to grab pictures of, but I am so, so thankful for this break and reset time, and I am looking forward for what’s to come!

Ingredients:
- 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 4–6 lemons), or more if you like it super tart!
- ¾ cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- 4 cups cold water
- Ice
- Lemon slices, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:
In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and the sugar. Heat over medium, stirring until sugar is completely dissolved to make a simple syrup. My grandma just put the sugar directly into the lemonade which was so delish! But I played around with doing this and think it incorporates really well.

Let cool, then mix with lemon juice and remaining 3 cups of cold water. Optional! The tiniest dash of vanilla extract and very thinly sliced lemons.

Taste and adjust sugar or water if needed.

Serve over ice and garnish with lemon slices.

I also made her brown butter broccolini from the same cookbook. Delish!
