Happy Sunday friends! I hope everyone had a great weekend with the cooler weather. I went to a pumpkin patch on Friday, had a movie date with Preston on Saturday, and wore a sweater every day- which if you know me, this describes my idea of the perfect weekend. The only thing that could have made it better would have been seeing my parents, I miss them!
Preston and I love movies. We would go see every movie that comes out if Movie Pass was still working (*eye roll*), but we are back to only seeing movies that we really think we are going to like. At the beginning of the year I started keeping track of how many movies we went to watch and we are at 23 so far. I am hoping we can get to 30 by the end of the year. We wanted to start reviewing all of the movies we go to so we can remember and you all can decide if you want to go see them or not!
I wanted to do a review on the movie I went to see on Saturday- First Man with Ryan Gosling. This movie followed Neil Armstrong and his family through the process of the space race. Preston is a space nerd so we had to go see it, and I love historically based movies so it was perfect for me.
The movie got an 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, and I completely agree with that rating. It was really good!
Claire Foy was in the film, which was so weird to see her acting so differently from the Crown. Her American accent was really good, and she did a great job portraying an astronaut’s wife.
The film was so suspenseful, even though I already knew how many of the story lines played out. The whole time I was wondering who was going to die and what was going to happen, haha!
The costuming and sound were the best aspects for me, I could totally see this film getting nominated for Oscars in those categories.
My score: 8/10– there were some slow parts but I really enjoyed it overall.
Preston’s score- 9/10
“I thought the shots were well framed and edited
Sometimes pacing was an issue but it wasn’t a major problem
It’s a slow paced drama so don’t go in expecting to be on the edge of your seat
Everyone knows the moon landing was a successful mission, so the movie was less about the mission and more about the man
Don’t go in expecting Ryan Gosling as vibrant as he was in la la land, expect a
Blade Runner 2049
-eqsue performance from Ryan Gosling”
– Preston’s thoughts about the film, in case you are looking for a guy’s perspective!
Let me know if you all want to see more posts like this in the future!
