Let me preface this post by explaining that I did not want to like Toy Story 4. I was fully prepared to witness a worn storyline grasping for relevancy. I thought Toy Story 3 left everything perfectly wrapped up and finalized for America’s favorite toys.
When I started seeing the excellent reviews for the film and the initial 100 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, I was shocked to say the least. Preston and I decided to go see it, and I am so glad we did. This was going to be one of the movies we waited to watch once it came out on Netflix, but I am glad we didn’t.
The opening scene of the movie is both sad and hilarious. My mood instantly went from impassive to really excited for the rest of the movie. It’s done really well at the box office, and now I see why. The entire idea of the Forky character is so funny to me, and he has some of the best lines in the movie. This film also presents new challenges for Woody, and it’s interesting to see his evolution.
My roommate (and bestie) is a audiology and speech pathology major which has made me much more aware of the hearing impaired in recent years. There is one establishing shot that includes a boy with a cochlear implant, and Preston and I both noticed it almost immediately without the film even drawing attention to it. We really loved seeing the normality in which they included this!
I think the film is great for a family outing or date night. Anyone can go see this and enjoy it! I am keeping this post short and sweet, but let me know if you go see it!
Have a great weekend, everyone!
