I know what you’re thinking after reading the headline of this post- Christmas is still a bit away. Seriously though, it will be here before you know it. Also, I know this year holiday gathering and gifting look so different than ever before, meaning many of us might start the gift buying process sooner than usual.
I personally am not a great gift wrapper. I am not a perfectionist, so I often just let the packages look *fine,* rather than amazing. When I lived with my parents, my mom would always wrap the gifts, and I was in charge of the embellishments. This led me to explore the creative side of packaging, and through other Pinterest trends and such, I discovered a new method I really love for gift wrapping.
All you need is brown kraft paper, sharpies (chisel tip is my preference!) and any other usual gift wrapping supplies.
I always use Pinterest to find inspiration for kraft paper wrapping like this. There are so many creative ideas out there, so a few years ago I even made a board to keep up with it all. Pinterest is so handy for visual inspiration, but I also use this board to help me decide on Christmas sayings and words!
Use your inspiration pictures to write, draw, dot, paint, etc on the gifts. It looks so simple but thoughtful at the same time, and I have even had people keep their wrapping when I have done it using this “technique!” Even if you’re not good at artistic handwriting, I think you can still make a creative package with other supplies and ideas. These look great with just writing, but they’re also amazing with added ribbon or other trinkets. The options are limitless!
One of my favorite aspects of this is the ability to just write who it is to and from on the back of the package to save the time, money and space that comes with those finicky gift tags! I know that’s a very tiny aspect of wrapping presents, but every little bit helps right?
Also, I usually also pick up a kraft paper based wrapping paper that still has a design on it to mix and match with the ones I create.
Make sure to let me know if you try this out this holiday season! If you’re really loving how it turned out, upload a photo and tag me on Instagram!
