Seasons come and go. Isn’t that a refreshing reminder in the midst of turmoil and change? My all-time favorite bible verse is Ecclesiastes 3:1, “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” This verse has kept me joyful through some of the happiest times and steadfast during the hectic times. I am so grateful to live a life with change and excitement, but I would be lying if I said there weren’t moments of uncertainty and doubt in myself through these changes.
Today’s post is a life update. I think it’s important for me to keep this blog as a personal journal of sorts, and enable myself to look back on this content fondly for years to come. To do that, a little life update is necessary now and then! If you know everything going on already, stick around for my next post, but if not, see what I am up to lately!
Job
The biggest change that has occurred in my life lately is my internship switch. I had the pleasure of interning with the UT System Office of Communications and Marketing for seven months this year, and it was truly a great experience. I learned a lot about communication for a state-wide audience, managing relationships between all UT campuses and institutes and facets of project collaboration. My internship allowed me to hone in on my social media skills, experience event planning and gain valuable professional knowledge. I will miss my coworkers, the familiarity of the work and the convenient on-campus location so much!
Why would I leave such an incredible job? Well, I received the opportunity to intern at one of the top public relations agencies in Tennessee, and I couldn’t pass on the experience and knowledge I am going to gain with Moxley Carmichael. Starting yesterday, I am the new public relations intern for the leading agency, and I couldn’t be more excited about it! The offices are located downtown, and I am already looking forward to all the crepes and ice cream visits I am going to have this semester. In just a few weeks I will have a blog post with all my tips for making the most out of an internship, stay tuned!
School
My senior year of college starts on Wednesday. I have no idea how four years passed so quickly, and I am completely convinced I am not as old as I perceived seniors in college to be when I was younger. One of the biggest hurdles on the school front was taking the GRE last week. I don’t have a specific graduate program in mind, so I took some time to study the basics, and I am happy to say I passed. I wanted to use this as an opportunity to test my commitment to graduate school and line out my interests and priorities. I am still unsure of my next steps, but knowing I can get into grad school is a weight off my shoulders.
I am going to be in the senior capstone of my major this semester, and I am excited to see all that comes with that opportunity. It is a very hands on class, but hopefully it won’t eclipse too many of my other commitments. I am still enrolled in the honors thesis program, but I actually broke my neck to finish the project in one semester instead of two so that is going to be complete free time! My other two classes are finance and journalism, but I think those aren’t going to be too difficult.
Involvement
If you didn’t already know, I am the president of the public relations club on campus, and I am so excited for all that’s happening in the club! I have been an active member since my freshman year, and being appointed president is a dream come true. It has already been a beneficial position, and I am eager to see how the club thrives this year! I was planning the guest speakers all summer, and finally got all the speakers sorted out a few weeks ago. I was able to breathe a sigh of relief when I managed to schedule all our preferred guest speakers and meeting times!
Wedding planning
I will most likely complete another wedding update soon, but I think I will wait until after our huge vendor meeting in September. To name a few highlights, we have asked our flower girls to help, a rehearsal dinner menu and I believe the women planning for my bridal shower are starting soon. It’s an exciting time, and it’s soon to be only four months away.
Living
If you saw this post, Preston and I are still hard at work on settling him into our condo. I can’t wait to live there, but for now we are enjoying putting things in place for Preston to live there. It’s always a work in progress, and some weeks are busier than others, but we have built a bookshelf for the office, moved in two pieces of furniture and hung a few pieces of artwork since the last update. It’s already my favorite place to spend time, and I know that will only increase as we get more done!
I just moved out of my brother’s apartment where he let me live with him (I was able to save so much on rent!) and moved into my dorm for the final time! I will have a move in day video coming out soon!
Random
Taylor Swift’s new album comes out on Thursday, and I couldn’t be more excited. A period of time around each of her releases is always defined for me by the sound of the album. I have the fondest memories of listening to Red my freshman year of highschool, 1989 at the end of high school and reputation in college. Lover lines up perfectly with the wedding happening this year, and I can’t wait to play the song Lover at our wedding!
That’s about it for me as of now! I am enjoying this time because I know in just a little while I won’t be a bride anymore! It’s such a fun time, and it goes by too quickly. Do you have any big life changes? Let me know on Instagram!
