Photo Diary No. 6

December 4, 2020

I am so excited it’s time for another photo diary post! I mentioned in the last one that I wanted to make a point to get them done more regularly, and thankfully I finally realized to set an alarm on my calendar for it each month. Monthly works well for me because some weeks I don’t do anything to even take a photo of, and then some weeks I am literally all over the place with lots of photo opportunities. Unfortunately, this post is on a two-week turnaround from the last photo diary post, but it was the only way to get the post synced up at the beginning of the month like I’d love for them to be.

Also, just as a sidenote, I am trying to make this post exclusively un-edited photos just to give another dose of reality on the internet. I don’t edit my photos heavily, but the lighting and “filter” type edits really make a difference in photos. I think it can be really easy to fall into the comparison trap, especially when every single photo on your instagram feed is amazingly curated and edited. I’d like this post to be a little respite from that 🙂

Without further ado, here’s the last few weeks in picture form!

I had an important zoom meeting I was trying on outfits for, at first I thought it was funny I had a blazer and slouchy jeans on, then I realized I kinda loved the entire look. I ended up taking an instagram photo in it and everything haha. Also, Preston has been working out in the dining room with me (he usually works in his office all day!), and it’s been so nice having him out here.

My apologies for two mirror selfies in a row! I’ve been wearing this scarf a little bit *too* much

Our nativity scene! If you saw on my Instagram, my mom accidentally only brought me one box of it, and I was missing a TON of the pieces including baby Jesus, Mary and Joseph! Haha but I have it all now and love it. This set is actually my grandmas!

The gingerbread men mug hangers from Trader Joes are just too cute! I think they actually taste better than the gingerbread people cookies.

Our thanksgiving meal is one of my favorite meals of the year! I actually ask for thanksgiving food for my birthday meal too.

I made coq au vin, I love making this dish because it smells even better than it tastes. Fills my entire house with warmth. I really wanted beer bread with this, but I didn’t have everything it took!

Ingredients:
- 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 4–6 lemons), or more if you like it super tart!
- ¾ cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- 4 cups cold water
- Ice
- Lemon slices, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:
In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and the sugar. Heat over medium, stirring until sugar is completely dissolved to make a simple syrup. My grandma just put the sugar directly into the lemonade which was so delish! But I played around with doing this and think it incorporates really well.

Let cool, then mix with lemon juice and remaining 3 cups of cold water. Optional! The tiniest dash of vanilla extract and very thinly sliced lemons.

Taste and adjust sugar or water if needed.

Serve over ice and garnish with lemon slices.

I also made her brown butter broccolini from the same cookbook. Delish!
