Over the past few weeks, I’ve noticed my body physically and mentally craving a change in my routine. Since quarantine started, we have went in and out of waking up at 7 or 7:30, sometimes 8. The problem was, when the alarm was set for 7:30, I would lay there for a few more minutes, then the clock seemed so close to 8, I just decided to doze around until 8. This just got into an everyday thing, and even though Preston was waking right up at 7:30 on the dot and making coffee and starting work, I felt so lazy? I don’t even know the right way to describe it. Preston is also so kind and brings me coffee and encourages me to sleep as long as needed, but I felt like it was just better for me to change it up and start being diligent in the mornings.
I decided to start this morning because why wait for a Monday? Mondays have the potential to be the worst days, so I feel it’s better to get started on a different day than one you’re already wired to despise. I woke up at 7, probably laid there until 7:05. My first instinct was to put in a load of laundry that I have been avoiding for days? I have no idea why, but I listened to my instinct and started that load of laundry. Then I came into the living room to look at my phone for a little bit, Preston brought me coffee, I started our diffuser with a happy blend going, I grabbed my current devotion (it’s so good!!), my journal and my planner and sat down on the couch for some quiet time.
I finished reading and wrote down just a little bit in my journal. I am the world’s worst journal writer, but I am committed to trying again. Who knows? Maybe it will stick this time. I poured another cup of coffee, and then Preston and I chatted for a little bit, and now I am writing this post!
Each day will look a little different. I sometimes work early in the morning, and sometimes my work doesn’t start until after noon. Sometimes my barre class is at 8:30, other times it’s at 9:45 or 4:30. Some mornings I have to shower and be presentable for work, sometimes I dont. Hopefully, waking up at 7 will be the constant, and I can start my days off on the right foot.
