Welcome

Saturday Spotlight No. 13

August 10, 2019

featured-image

How has it already been a month since my last Saturday Spotlight? I always think it hasn’t been that long since my last one, and then I write another and realize time flies.

Settlers of Catan- I am an average board game consumer. I would generally say that I really enjoy playing them, but I don’t find myself playing them very often. For some reason I had this impression that Settlers of Catan was for serious gamers, and Preston and I always wanted to try it out but never wanted to shell out the $50. When we were exploring Barnes and Noble a few days ago, Preston came across the Family Edition, which sells for half of the regular version’s cost. This made us decide to pull the trigger, and I am so glad we did! Luckily Preston’s brother was spending the day with us, and we could barely stop ourselves from playing. If you have thought about trying, I highly recommend trying the cheaper family edition! It’s the same game, but the game pieces like houses and cards are just a lower quality than the original. This totally doesn’t bother us!

If you want to know what the basis of the game is, the main objective is to gain resources in order to build roads and cities on the island of Catan. You are working toward 10 “value points,” and it’s easier to get the hang of than it looks, I promise!

Kefi- This is for all my Knoxville people! Preston and I have fallen in love with this place, and I think it’s our new favorite place to eat in Knoxville. It’s Mediterranean tapas, and it’s the perfect place to share a few dishes with your girlfriend or on a date! I recommend the spanakopita, hummus, any cheese dish (it comes out flaming!), the shrimp and honestly anything else on the menu. We haven’t tried a single bad thing from there! If you’re looking for dessert, try the baklava and pistachio ice cream- so good!

Ask Polly Story- I stumbled across this after it was trending on Twitter one day, and I proceeded to send it to everyone I know. I think it’s absolutely hilarious, and I would be lying if I told you I didn’t read it multiple times to take in all the details. Basically, this woman’s husband’s family has been split in half because of her in-laws’ refusal to respect her deadly allergy. It is so unbelievably funny it makes me wonder if it’s true or not! Regardless, I think it’s definitely worth a read.

Flying the Nest- I go back and forth with wanting to only watch Youtube and only liking Netflix. The summers are always Youtube, and this summer in particular has been full of watching my new favorite Youtube channel! Steph and Jess film all their unique travels, and each video feels like catching up with a friend after their vacation. They also give a lot of great tips and advice about the places they are traveling, and I have loved watching their England and Scotland videos to get excited for our upcoming honeymoon!

Where the Crawdads sing- I will definitely review this book when I do my “what I read in August” post, but I wanted to share now so you all could get some last minute reading in while it’s still summer. This book definitely deserves to be read in the summer! It’s about a young girl who is abandoned and lives in marshland in the 50s and 60s, with a murder mystery tied in. It is one of the few books I have read in physical form and not audiobook this summer, and it’s definitely a good one to curl up with when it’s raining. I hadn’t heard that the book has a very unexpected ending, so when you finish it you will be very understanding of the shock that I felt, haha.

That’s all I have to share today! I apologize for writing a book about each one, but I am very passionate about each of the five spotlights this week, ha!
