Welcome

What I am praying for this month

May 17, 2019

Hello friends! Today’s post is a bit different than usual, but I felt so inspired to sit down and write this. I began writing an Instagram caption a few minutes ago, and it turned into a very long explanation of some things I have on my heart to pray for this month, so I thought I could just make a post out of it instead!

Do you ever get in a prayer rut? I know that I do. I pray for generally the same things every night. I thank God for what He did in my life that day, express my repentance for sin I have committed that day, pray for healing and comfort for those I know in pain and ask him to bless the next day. Sometimes my prayers can feel so repetitive I wake up the next morning wondering if I remembered to pray the night before.

For the rest of May I am going to try to reinvigorate my prayer game in a few ways, and I wanted to talk about them here!

1. Pray more often throughout the day

One of my 2019 goals was to notice God more in everyday life. I have gotten better about noticing him in the safe flow of traffic patterns, a coworker being just the right person to help me navigate a new job and my close circle being so understanding of my emotions. However, I would not say that I pray more than usual, but simply notice God’s place in the moment. I hope to intentionally pray every time I feel even a fleeting moment of thankfulness in the coming months.

2. Pray to appreciate balance.

This has been a messy few weeks for me. I am not trying to brag, but I usually have my life pretty together. With finals, moving, adjusting to working a different schedule and just a new season of life, I have been feeling just messy. I feel like my room is a mess, my car is a mess, I haven’t posted many blog posts or on Instagram and I have been spending too much time mindlessly scrolling through Taylor Swift fan theories instead of working on all the messes. But, I have exercised three times, packed a healthy lunch for work every day and washed my face every night. I have seen my family and made an effort to chat more with my friends. Sometimes I get so down on myself for not being enough, not doing enough. For the next few months I want to pray to God and ask Him to give me balance in the good and the bad parts of life. All facets work together for good, and I want to start appreciating that.

3. Pray to fall in love with His word.

@lonestarsouthern on Instagram posted an Instagram story today with words that really resonated with me. She expressed that she used to be bored by God’s word and only trust others’ interpretations of it to grow her faith. I have to admit that I feel that way right now. Why is it so easy to prefer reading tweets for ten minutes over a book of the Bible? Kate, from lonestar state, described the way she prayed for God to reveal a love in her heart for reading His word, and I was really inspired by that. God’s will is for us to be present with Him, and reading the Bible is one of the most direct ways to do that. I am sincerely seeking to find a greater appreciation for His word this month.

Those are three things I am adding to my prayer life starting today! I don’t want to look at my prayers with a “check-list” mindset, but I do think conscious decisions lead to change, and I do want to change the sincerity and intensity in how I pray. Please let me know if you have any questions for me or want to request prayer from me by messaging me on Instagram (@classicallygrace).

I hope you all have a fantastic day! I will continue praying for each person who reads this blog!

Ingredients:
- 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 4–6 lemons), or more if you like it super tart!
- ¾ cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- 4 cups cold water
- Ice
- Lemon slices, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:
In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and the sugar. Heat over medium, stirring until sugar is completely dissolved to make a simple syrup. My grandma just put the sugar directly into the lemonade which was so delish! But I played around with doing this and think it incorporates really well.

Let cool, then mix with lemon juice and remaining 3 cups of cold water. Optional! The tiniest dash of vanilla extract and very thinly sliced lemons.

Taste and adjust sugar or water if needed.

Serve over ice and garnish with lemon slices.

I also made her brown butter broccolini from the same cookbook. Delish!
