Welcome

What I Read, November + December

December 30, 2020

featured-image

I love, love doing these reading recap posts. I hope they aren’t *too* boring for you all, because I really want to keep doing them. I read some books that had been on my list for a good while this time around, and it felt really nice to be able to say I finally read them.

What I Read in November and December

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue 3/5

I have mixed opinions about this book. I rated this one a 3/5, which I feel like is low for me because I’m usually always raving about books. It was so. long. I like long books, the longer the better for me. However, this one was unnecessarily long. I think it could have been 100 pages shorter. Otherwise, I liked it! It was a unique story line for sure, and I thought the main character was really admirable in the face of her trial.

House of Trelawney 5/5

Okay, I really liked this one! It’s set in Britain during the 2008 financial crisis, but I don’t want that to scare you into thinking it’s all about finance or boring. I couldn’t tell where the story line for the characters was going until the very end, and I felt it constantly kept surprising me. I also love anything involving aristocracy or British upper-class, so this hit all those marks for me.

All the Light We Cannot See 5/5

This book is really, really good. I feel like it’s worthy of being a classic, but I am not literary-minded enough to know what constitutes something as a classic. It’s on sale at Amazon right now for $10, so I am almost feeling like picking up a couple copies to give as gifts or maybe to keep for myself? I never really hang onto books, but this one feels like something I might reread every few years. It’s set in WWII Germany and France with shifting perspectives of unique citizens in each. I won’t say too much more because I want this book to speak for itself!

People Like Her 5/5

This was my December Book of the Month pick (if you ever decide to sign up for that, it would mean so much if you used my referral link!), and I am really happy with it. I almost went with The Wife Upstairs, but this one actually caught my eye because it seemed pretty unique. My mom ended up signing up for BOTM, so she is going to let me borrow The Wife Upstairs since it was her pick for the month. Win, win! I think anyone keen on the influencer culture or the business of social media would enjoy this. It’s got a great mix of suspense and an inside look at the industry. I’m actually going to see if Preston can read it because I think it’s one of those books that would translate gender/interests, especially because he’s always helping me curate and brainstorm instagram content.

A Saint from Texas 1/5

I did not like this. It’s about identical twin sisters from Texas and how their life paths twist and turn away from each other. I wouldn’t recommend it, and I am kinda sad I wasted time finishing? I need to get better about quitting books that I don’t like!
